Cappadocia is an area of an exceptional splendour characterised by its fairy chimneys. It has a unique cultural and historical heritage. Its name derives from the Persian term meaning the land of beautiful horses. Cappadocia is a famous and popular tourist destination featuring exceptional geological areas. It is underlain by sedimentary rocks and deposits from ancient volcanoes. Some of Cappadocia region villages’ houses, churches and monasteries were carved out of volcanic soft rocks. Visitors shouldn’t miss Goreme open air museum, the most visited monastic community site in Cappadocia and one of the most famous in central Turkey. This complex is formed of more than 30 carved churches and chapels. Cappadocia features many fabulous points of interest including the Fairy chimneys, the underground city of Kaymakli and Uçhisar rock fortress. Tours can be organised in hot air balloon, trekking, walking, horse riding, motor bike or mountain bike. Cappadocia has a lot to offer to its visitors. In addition to wonderful natural sites, one will be able to taste delicious Turkish cuisine in one of the traditional restaurants. The region is famous for its cereals, potatoes, fruits and delicious wines.
