Hofn is home to Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajokull, which covers 8% of Iceland. It is surrounded by beautiful natural sceneries. Hofn means harbour. Here, boats bring their catches that can be sampled in local restaurants. The port is famous for lobsters and prawns. Those interested in modern architecture will have the opportunity to visit Bjarnanes Church, an unusual white concrete building. Hofn is home to a folk museum exhibiting ancient tools and a maritime museum located close to the harbour. Hofn is also a great place for bird watching; various species can be observed in the village and in Osland estuary.
