Mljet Island is located in Croatia’s Dalmatian region. This Adriatic Island lies south of Peljesac peninsula. Being of volcanic origin, Mljet abounds of impressive chasms and gorges. The northwest part of Mljet Island has been national park since 1960. It features an inland sea with small islands. The island name comes from the Greek word for honey “Melita” which evolved into the Slavic name Mljet.
