Ponferrada is the capital town of in El Bierzo, a region in the Leon Province, North of Spain. This charming town lies on the River Sil. Ponferrada is surrounded by beautiful mountains including the impressive El Morredero Peak with a height of 2135m that features a small ski resort. One of the city landmarks is a templar castle named Castillo de los Templarios. Close to Ponferrada, visitors will find Las Medulas (ancient gold mines listed as UNESCO World Heritage site), some wineries as well as typical villages.
