Porto Seguro represents the starting point of Brazil’s history. This is where the Portuguese fleet that discovered the country first set foot. The Captain named the bay Porto Seguro mining safe haven. Porto Seguro is one of the top beauty spots in Bahia. It features beautiful sandy beaches with dune and clear blue water as well as colourful coral reefs and a great variety of wild life. Porto Seguro environment and cultural heritage has been well preserved. The city is divided in two parts: the historical centre with many monuments, and a modern area full of bars, restaurants, shops, live music and dancing. Many activities can be practiced there such as windsurf, snorkelling, scuba diving, boat trips, dune buggy trips, horse riding and kayaking.
