Szombathely is the capital of Vas County in western Hungary. This charming city lies between Alpokalja Mountains and the Little Hungarian Plain. Szombathely name comes from the Hungarian worlds for “Saturday” and “place”. It was named as such because it used to hold medieval markets every Saturday. Szombathely was built in 45 AD; it is the oldest town in Hungary. This city is situated close to the “Amber Road”, an important trade route. Szombathely houses an imperial residence, a public bath and an amphitheatre that really worse a visit.
