Tavistock is a charming city lying on the south west edge of Dartmoor national park. Tavistock is located at approximately 24km from Plymouth on the Tavy River after which it as been named. Famous sir Francis Drake, great seafarer hero, was born at Crowndale Farm, South of Tavistock in 1542. Francis Drake sailed from the port of Plymouth to beat the Spanish Armada. His statue stands close to the city centre. Tavistock is a fine and flourishing town which houses are made of local stones. It features many interesting shops as well as market, Riverside Park, leisure centre and theatre. It is a nice place to visit and a perfect base to discover the surrounding countryside.
