Trieste is located close to the Slovenian border in Northern Italy. This city has a port and is located at the head of the Adriatic Sea. Trieste history has been influenced by the blend of different cultures. It is due to its geographic position between Germanic, Latin and Slavic civilisations. Trieste has many interesting sites such as Castle of Miramare, Castle of San Giusto, churches, archaeological remains, a roman theatre and some caves. The Castle of Miramare was built between 1856 and 1860. Its beautiful gardens have different varieties of trees making a remarkable collection. The Castle of San Giusto construction took several centuries. It was built on the remains of a previous castle. The Castle's defensive structure is marked by a round Venetian bastion. There are several churches Worthing a visit in Trieste including The Cathedral of San Giusto, the Serb-orthodox Temple, Basilica of San Silvestro, Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Church of San Nicolo dei Greci and the Israelite Temple of Trieste. Among other archaeological remains, the Arch of Riccardo dating from 33BC is an Augustan gate built in Roman walls. It is located in Piazzetta Barbacan.
